Cody Kempt To Transfer To Montana State

A couple of days ago I was tipped off that Cody Kempt was going to be transferring to a new school this summer and leave the UO. Now this is a topic that has been much debated in the past and it was well rumored that Kempt might leave the football program.

After a spring practice session that showed Kempt improve on all areas of his game yet still be near the bottom of the depth chart there was question if he would stay on board with the ducks.

Yesterday I got an email explaining that Kempt would transfer to Montana State and I asked him if I could post a short message about it and today I got the O.K. to announce he will be leaving the UO.

Kempt didn't want to talk much about the transfer because it is still a emotional time for him as he will miss his friends and teammates at the UO but is looking forward to a new start in his football playing career.

Ducks Attack would like to thank Kempt for all he did at the UO and would like to wish him good luck at Montana State.

You have to feel for the guy...good luck Cody!

This is probably for both sides, Cody and the ducks. He most likely would have never see the field again at UO.

Good luck to Cody at his new home.

Hey may have a hard time seeing the field at MSU as well.

Jordan Rasmussen is a RS SO who was ranked the #79 QB out of high school in 2006. He is the lone returning scholarship QB.

Mark Iddins, a 3-star JC transfer will be a Junior.

The battle between Iddins and Rasmussen is tight so far. No starter named.

Then we have 2 promising QB's coming in the fall, who will likely redshirt.

I have to imagine someone from MSU has left the program, we have something like 8 QBs now (though I imagine at least 2 will switch positions, and 1 is a walk-on).

I've been lucky enough to be around Oregon football since I was just a kid (1979).

I've never seen a kid this talented that far down the depth chart since Paris Warren, who went on to have a great career at Utah and is currently on Tampa Bay's roster.

Good Luck Cody.

I seriously doubt Cody Kempt will have a hard time challenging for a starting spot. Is Cody a Pac-10 QB? Prolly not, but he is a lower tier D1 QB that could play at the likes of Idaho or Wyoming. I think Cody Kempt will challenge for a starting spot at MSU.

I'm not saying he won't see the field. Just saying that a lot of drop-down QBs at our level are pretty much guaranteed a starting spot, but that won't be the case at MSU. He will have some solid competition, and if he wins, MSU will be in great shape.

If he can beat out Iddins or Rasmussen, without attending spring practice, I will be very impressed.

I am unaware of the offense that MSU runs but if they run something that can take advantage of his athleticism he will have a chance to shine.

Believe it or not Kempt is actually a very good athlete as he was recruited to Oregon as an ATH and would play either Safety or QB when he got to Oregon.

Kempt is lucky enough to have figured out Oregon wasn't the place for him and got out quickly and will have 3 years at MSU thus he wont be put in a situation with many transfers that are left with one year to figure the playbook out and to make the starting lineup.
