Ducks Unveil 2009 Oregon Baseball Schedule

In Less than nine months Oregon baseball will return to the diamond for the first time in 28 years where the Ducks will embark on a 56 game slate under the direction of Head Coach George Horton who brings College World Series experience to the program.

The Ducks open play on Feb. 20, 2009 at St. Mary’s and conclude the regular season at home against Pacific-10 Conference foe Arizona on May 24. Along the way, Oregon will also participate in a tournament at PGE Park in Portland, featuring Hawaii, New York Tech and Portland.

“Considering how little time we had to work with, I’m very pleased that we were able to have a full schedule of 56 games,” Horton said.

All told, Oregon will play 26 home games and 27 on the road, along with the three neutral site contests. Included is a full Pac-10 schedule that opens with the Ducks hosting a three-game set against Oregon State starting March 27. The site of the Civil War games on the 28th and 29th has yet to be determined.

“To start out with Oregon State is apropos,” Horton said. “I can’t think of a more exciting way to begin for baseball fans in the state, our program and Oregon baseball in general.”

The Ducks and Beavers will also play two games in Corvallis outside of conference play on April 28 and May 19. The latter date is slated to be the 300th meeting on the baseball field between the two rivals. OSU leads the all-time series 150-144 and was the opponent in UO’s last varsity baseball contest back in 1981.

Oregon’s home opener is set for Feb. 27 versus Fresno State at the University’s planned baseball facility next to Autzen Stadium.
